Description
In a quiet valley in Perak, Malaysia, archaeologists found a 74,000-year-old stone tool workshop sealed under ash from the Toba supereruption, and it challenged one of the most influential ideas in archaeology: the Movius Line.
This documentary tells the story of the Lenggong Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It covers the Kota Tampan workshop, Perak Man (the most complete prehistoric human skeleton found in Southeast Asia), the disputed 1.83-million-year Bukit Bunuh claim, and the bamboo hypothesis that may explain why early Asian toolkits looked "simpler" than they really were.
We look at how Malaysian archaeologist Zuraina Majid re-excavated a site first recorded in 1938, how refitting stone flakes answered the "geofact" objection, and why discoveries from Flores, Sulawesi and Niah Cave in Borneo have changed how we see early human history in Southeast Asia.
