Description

In the late 1980s and '90s, Clarence "Preacher" Heatley ran one of the most feared crews in Harlem. His organization controlled drug corners, carried out contract killings, and even had a corrupt New York City police officer on its side. This documentary follows how Preacher Heatley built his crew, the wave of violence that made his name, and the federal investigation that finally caught up with him. When the case closed in, Heatley tried to cooperate with prosecutors and trade what he knew for a lighter sentence — but it wasn't enough to save him. Using court records, trial testimony and contemporary reporting, we look at why one of Harlem's most dangerous bosses couldn't escape justice.
