Description

🏔️ Hidden beneath the streets of Blackheath once stood the last convict stockade in New South Wales. In 1844, convicts, soldiers and road gangs lived and worked on the windswept Blue Mountains plateau, maintaining the vital road to Bathurst under the watchful eyes of armed guards. Today, almost nothing remains. The barracks have vanished. The convict huts have disappeared. The stockade itself lies buried beneath modern development. Yet traces of its story still survive. In this walking documentary, we explore the forgotten history of the Blackheath Stockade, the men who lived here, the reforms introduced by Captain John Bull, the convict graves that remain behind Blackheath Cemetery, and the remarkable relics that continued to emerge from the mountains decades after the stockade closed. From escaped convicts and weathered gravestones to leg irons discovered inside a growing tree, this is the story of a place that played a unique role in the final years of the convict system in New South Wales. 🎥 Locations featured: 📍 Blackheath, Blue Mountains 📍 Blackheath Cemetery 📍 Site of the former Blackheath Stockade If you enjoy forgotten history, abandoned places, convict stories and hidden locations across Australia, consider subscribing to Shadowed Secrets for more walking documentaries. 👍 Like 💬 Comment 🔔 Subscribe Thanks for watching. #BlackheathStockade #ConvictHistory #BlueMountains #Blackheath #AustralianHistory #NSWHistory #Convicts #ColonialAustralia #HiddenHistory #ForgottenHistory #HistoricalPlaces #BlueMountainsNSW #HistoryDocumentary #WalkingDocumentary #ShadowedSecrets
