Description

“Her Majesty” is a short, playful acoustic song written and performed by Paul McCartney, appearing as the surprise final track on The Beatles' legendary 1969 album Abbey Road. At just 23 seconds long, it is the shortest song in The Beatles' officially released catalogue and one of the most famous early examples of a hidden album track. • Written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. • Recorded on July 2, 1969, at EMI Studios in London (later renamed Abbey Road Studios). • Features only Paul McCartney singing and playing acoustic guitar. • Originally intended to appear between “Mean Mr. Mustard” and “Polythene Pam” in the famous Abbey Road medley. • McCartney decided the song didn't fit the medley and asked for it to be removed. • Tape operator John Kurlander, following instructions not to discard Beatles recordings, attached it to the end of the tape after approximately 20 seconds of silence. • When McCartney heard the unexpected result, he liked the effect, and the song remained at the end of the album. • The opening guitar chord actually belongs to the ending of “Mean Mr. Mustard,” a leftover from the original medley edit. • The song ends abruptly because its final guitar note was removed when the song was originally connected to “Polythene Pam.” • “Her Majesty” was not listed on the sleeve of the original British pressing of Abbey Road, making it a surprise for listeners. Released on September 26, 1969, Abbey Road was the final album The Beatles recorded together, although Let It Be would be released later. The album includes classics such as “Come Together,” “Something,” “Here Comes the Sun,” and the celebrated side-two medley. After the grand finale of “The End,” the unexpected appearance of “Her Majesty” provides a charming and humorous conclusion to one of rock music's greatest albums. #TheBeatles #Beatles #HerMajesty #PaulMcCartney #AbbeyRoad #AcousticGuitar #BeatlesMusic #ClassicRock #1969
