Earlier this year, I traveled to South Africa and had an incredible experience. I met amazing people, explored beautiful places, and had conversations with locals who shared stories about spiritual beliefs, folklore, ancestral ideas, sacred places, protective forces, and unexplained experiences. Those conversations stayed with me and became part of the inspiration behind INVASION. This film is NOT based on any specific South African legend, tribe, religion, ritual, or real-world belief system. The mythology, entities, supernatural rules, characters, and events in this film are fictional and were created specifically for this story. South Africa was simply one of the sparks that made me start thinking about ancient spiritual beliefs, sacred objects, forbidden places, supernatural protectors, spirits, demons, apparitions, witchcraft, curses, and what could happen when someone crosses a boundary they don't fully understand. INVASION is also very different from some of my other films. I didn't want this one to be a traditional slow-burn horror film. I wanted it to feel more like a ride. Something unpredictable, experimental, surreal, and constantly escalating. I wanted to see how much supernatural horror, psychological horror, paranormal activity, disturbing imagery, tension, sound design, and cinematic chaos I could fit into seven or eight minutes without letting the story feel repetitive. Some of my films are built around dread and slow tension. Others are more atmospheric or psychological. INVASION is me experimenting with the other side of horror. This film plays with ideas surrounding supernatural entities, ancient spirits, apparitions, spiritual protectors, cursed artifacts, sacred objects, home invasion horror, nightmare logic, hallucinations, witchcraft, possession, demonic imagery, ritual horror, paranormal encounters, isolation, and the uncertainty of whether what you're seeing is actually happening at all. I also wanted the entity in this film to feel completely different from the other monsters and supernatural beings I've created. Something ancient, ritualistic, strange, and connected to another place and another time without directly copying an existing piece of folklore or mythology. That's a big part of what I want The Noctuary to be. Experimenting with different types of horror. You can expect slow-burn horror, psychological horror, supernatural horror, creature horror, demonic horror, analog horror, paranormal stories, disturbing short films, atmospheric horror, and sometimes something completely chaotic like this. Let me know what you think in the comments. Did you enjoy INVASION? And most importantly... Do you think you know what actually happened to Sean?
