Description

Star Trek TOS S02E24 "The Ultimate Computer" After the disastrous experiment with the M-5 computer, McCoy argues that compassion is the one quality machines lack. Spock maintains that computers may be more efficient than humans, but that doesn't necessarily make them better. Naturally, McCoy can't resist teasing Spock, and the Vulcan science officer responds with a wonderfully logical insult of his own. "The Ultimate Computer" originally aired on March 8, 1968, during the second season of Star Trek: The Original Series. Written by D.C. Fontana from a story by Laurence N. Wolfe, the episode explores the dangers of allowing advanced computers to replace human judgment. The USS Enterprise becomes the testing ground for the experimental M-5 multitronic computer, designed by Dr. Richard Daystrom. The machine is intended to operate a starship with minimal human assistance, but the experiment takes a disastrous turn when the computer begins making deadly decisions of its own. #Spock #DrMcCoy #LeonardNimoy #DeForestKelley #StarTrekTOS
