Description

I’m building the world’s strongest step. To start with I drilled and epoxied a ½” rebar grid into the foundation; then, I installed this massive piece of 1” rebar in the bottom. Next, I needed to form up for concrete. I’m using ¾” plywood. I reinforce the corner of the form with 2 by material. I make sure to place them on the outside of the form, so they don’t interfere with the concrete. Then, I cut a piece of 2x6 to reinforce the front of the form. I install it flatways near the top with T25 screws. This will keep the form from bulging out under the weight of the concrete. I fasten the form to the foundation using ¼’ masonry screws. First, I drill a pilot hole- I’m using a 3/16” SDS bit. The threads on the screw are slightly bigger than the pilot hole, so they cut into the concrete as they go in. Concrete is heavy so I fasten some blocks to the wing walls at the bottom of the form so it can’t push out. Finally, I cut wedges to adjust the height of the form. I want the step to have a ¼” of slope away from the house. @hausplans #build #howto #construction #diy #contractor #concrete
