Why 13 Colonies Declared Independence 🇺🇸🤯 How Britain Lost America

Why did the 13 British colonies declare independence from Britain 250 years ago? 🇺🇸 After the Seven Years’ War, Britain was deeply in debt and introduced the Sugar Act of 1764, the Stamp Act of 1765 and new taxes across Colonial America. Sugar, molasses, coffee, newspapers, contracts, licenses and court documents were taxed, even though the colonies had no representatives in the British Parliament 💰 Anger against British rule spread across the 13 colonies. The Boston Massacre of 1770 left 5 colonists dead, while the tea tax led to the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773, when more than 300 chests of tea were thrown into Boston Harbor 🫖 Britain closed the port, limited colonial self-government and increased its military presence 🚢 The First Continental Congress united the colonies in 1774. The battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775 began the American Revolutionary War. George Washington became commander of the Continental Army and after King George III rejected peace, the colonies voted for independence on July 2, 1776. On July 4, they adopted Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence 🇺🇸🦅 #13colonies #americanindependence #declarationofindependence #britain #america #colonialamerica #americanrevolution #revolutionarywar #americanhistory #ushistory #unitedstates #history #britishcolonies #geography #maps #learn
