Description

There is a doorway in your memory, mija. And in that doorway, a hand. Maybe you were seven, with your backpack, and you could not leave for school until your mother or your abuela stopped you at the door, put her hand on your head, and said the words: Que Dios te bendiga. Maybe she traced the little cross on your forehead with her thumb, so fast and so worn-smooth that it was over before you finished rolling your eyes. And then one day, years later, you stood in your own doorway watching your own child leave - and your hand came up all by itself, and the words came out in her exact voice, and you thought: what IS that? What have the women in this family been doing at doorways for a hundred years? Is it culture? Is it habit? Is it - someone has said this word to you, I know they have - superstition? In this episode of The Mexican Mother's Bible, Bertha opens the Book on la bendicion, and finds that Scripture does not just PERMIT what our mothers did at those doorways. It goes further than they ever dared: • The blessing was not invented by grandmothers - it was COMMANDED by God, with dictated words (Numbers 6:24-26), and verse 27 explains what it actually does: "so they will put my NAME on the Israelites, and I will bless them." The speaker places the Name. God does the blessing. • The old families of the Book treated a blessing like an inheritance - real enough that a grown hunter wept over a stolen one: "Bless me - me too, my father!" (Genesis 27) • The hand on the head is a GENESIS thing - Jacob's hands on his grandsons' heads, four thousand years ago (Genesis 48:14). It came through Mexico. It did not come from Mexico. • And Jesus Himself did it - "he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them" (Mark 10:16) - indignant at the men who tried to stop the mothers bringing them. She also gives you the honest half: the blessing runs on faith, not formula (Hebrews 11:20-21) - no magic in the motion, no forcefield around the child. And the word for one particular mother: blessing is NOT approving. You can disagree with everything a child is doing and still put the Name on their head - the wandering one needs the bendicion MORE, not less. And she holds back the ending - the place this whole practice truly comes from, the very last thing Jesus did on this earth (Luke 24:50-51) - because when she found it, she had to close the Book and sit quietly. Stay to the finish, mija. "And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them." - Mark 10:16 💛 A gentle word, for the one who never got it: no hand ever stopped you at any door, and this video has been a window into something other people had. Psalm 27:10 - "Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me." He can speak the blessing Himself; He has been doing it since Numbers six. And every tradition was started by somebody. Be the first. Let the chain start at your door, tonight. I am not a pastor. I have no letters after my name and no pulpit to stand behind. I am a mother with a worn Bible, passing down what was passed down to me. When I tell you what I believe a passage means, go and read it for yourself. Do not take my word for it. Take His. If this gave your family's doorway back its meaning, please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE so it reaches another house before the words are forgotten. God bless you, mija. 📖 Tell me in the comments: what were the WORDS in your family? Every family says it a little differently - the full bendicion, the short one, the thumb-cross, the bedtime version. Write down exactly what your mother or abuela said, in Spanish or English or both - these words will be lost if somebody does not write them down, and I want this comment section to be the place they are kept. Tell me your county too. I read every one, and I pray over more of them than you know.
