Description

In 1972 my father camped a whole week at a Minnesota state park with nine things from the trunk of his car. His rule was simple: every item does at least two jobs, or it stays in the garage. In this video I walk you through those 9 items for a week of car camping at a state or national park: a tarp with the lines already tied, a tent you can stand up in, a cot at knee height, a sleeping bag rated colder than you think, a wool blanket that's probably on your bed right now, a two-burner propane stove, a cook kit that nests in one pot, a rechargeable headlamp with a red light, and the one most of us leave home out of pride. You'll also hear what doesn't count toward the nine, what to leave home, how bear food-storage rules work in the Smokies and Yosemite, and why a stove or heater never goes inside a tent. Sources mentioned: CDC, Consumer Product Safety Commission, National Park Service (Great Smoky Mountains, Yosemite, Yellowstone), National Institute on Aging, Minnesota DNR, Wisconsin DNR. Never use a stove, grill, lantern or heater inside a tent, camper or vehicle. Follow each park's food-storage rules. Prices vary by store and region. This is general safety information, not medical advice. This channel is made with the help of AI tools. Which of these 9 is already in your garage or on your bed? Tell me in the comments. #camping #carcamping #campinggear
