Emperor Domitian was told the year, the day and the hour of his death: the fifth hour. He lined his walls with polished stone to see who was behind him and slept with a dagger under his pillow. On the day, he asked the time. His servants lied and said it was the sixth hour, so he relaxed. Then his steward came in with his arm bandaged for days, brought him a list of conspirators, and while Domitian read it, pulled a dagger out of the bandage. Domitian went for the dagger under his pillow: someone had taken the blade. It was still the fifth hour.
