Judith Chapter 13 | Judith Beheads Holofernes | Bible Stories Media Network Judith Chapter 13 is the turning point of the entire Book of Judith. The banquet is over. Holofernes has drunk heavily and is left alone in his tent with Judith. His servants withdraw, leaving the Assyrian commander vulnerable and unaware of what is about to happen. Judith stands beside his bed and prays silently, asking the God of Israel to strengthen her for the task before her. Then she takes Holofernes' own sword. With both hands, she strikes him twice and cuts off his head. She gives the head to her maid, who places it in their food bag. Together, they leave the Assyrian camp as they normally would, using their established routine as their cover. Judith returns to Bethulia and presents Holofernes' head to the people.
