Description
📗 Save Over $1,000 on Meat With My Butcher’s Money-Saving Methods: salpetralia.com
The picnic shoulder is the lumpy, bone-in cut nobody wants, and it was $1.89 a pound near me this month. One eight-pound picnic came to $15.12, and it fed four people for seven dinners. The savings are not in the cut. They are in the order you eat it.
In this video, I show you how to turn one cheap pork picnic shoulder into a week of dinners:
Why the picnic shoulder is the cheapest honest pork in the case, and how it differs from the pork butt
How to roast it low and uncovered, rest it an hour, and carve only Sunday's portion in the kitchen
The seven dinners, in order: Sunday roast, Monday heroes, Tuesday ragu, Wednesday pasta vasul', Thursday escarole and beans, Friday frittata, Saturday potatoes fried in the saved fat
The food-safety plan: refrigerate within two hours, freeze by Monday night what you will not eat by Wednesday, and reheat every portion to 165 degrees
The meat-cost-per-plate check: about 54 cents a plate, against about $2.07 for a week of pre-cut trays
Let me be straight about the $15. That is the meat. The pasta, beans, eggs, escarole and potatoes add about another $20 across the week, and a cooked picnic gives you about half its weight in meat. If your house is two people, a smaller pork butt is the better buy, and the tub of pulled pork or a rotisserie chicken is a fair buy when you live alone and you are tired.

What does a pound of picnic shoulder cost where you shop? Leave the price per pound with your town and state. I read every one of these.
The most meat on Sunday, a little less every night, and the bone is dinner too.
