I'll Tell You Why Luis Enrique DOESN'T WANT STARS on His Teams

In 2024, Kylian Mbappé — the most valuable player on the planet — left PSG for Real Madrid. Most coaches would have panicked. Luis Enrique said: "Without Kylian, we're going to be better." The football world laughed. Less than twelve months later, PSG won their first ever Champions League — 5-0 against Inter Milan, a 19-year-old scoring twice in the final. No Mbappé. No Neymar. No Messi. Just a team. This is why Luis Enrique doesn't want stars. From dropping Sergio Ramos and an entire Real Madrid contingent from Spain's Euro squad, to telling Neymar it was good he was leaving, to the loss that reshaped how he sees the game entirely. He's been building toward one idea for over a decade: talent wins games, but teams win trophies. "There's one star that shines brighter than all the others. That star is the team."
