📗 Save $2,000 A Year On Whiskey With My Distiller Methods: https://wadecooperdistiller.com
Costco puts the Scotch about eight feet to the left of the bourbon, and most of the men in that aisle have never once turned that way. The bottles on that side start at 19 dollars and 99 cents and run well past 90, and the front of every one of them is a paragraph in a language nobody taught you to read.
This video is about one bottle. The Kirkland Signature Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky: 32 dollars and 99 cents at my store, 750 milliliters, 50 percent alcohol, and no age on it anywhere. The reason I buy it is printed on the front, where you can check me. Those five words are not a brand talking to you. They are a legal claim, and every piece of it had to be true before the printer was allowed to set the type.
I will give you the floor first, which is what the word Scotch legally requires. Then the name, up front. Then four things to read on the front of a Scotch bottle, in order, and every one of them takes a different bottle off that shelf. Along the way I take back a tool I gave you two weeks ago, because it works on bourbon and dies on this side of the aisle.
I will also tell you where those five words stop. They say nothing about quality. There are eleven distilleries on that island and nobody can tell you which one this came from, and the company whose name is on the bottle owns no still. None of that is a scandal. It is the job.
Your homework costs nothing: four fronts, price blind, and one glass of water at home.
I spent 34 years in this industry filling barrels and looking after them, and about six years on the bottling end. Nobody paid me to say any of this, and there is nothing for sale here.
CHAPTERS:
00:00 – Eight feet to the left, and the one bottle I buy
00:55 – This should bother you: the front is advertising, except here
01:34 – Who I am not blaming: two laws, no meeting
02:33 – The promise: the floor, the name right away, four things
03:07 – Who I am: 34 years, and the bottling end
03:55 – The word only: one bottle, not a category
04:52 – The floor: what the word Scotch legally requires
06:03 – Five categories and no sixth
06:42 – The bottle: Kirkland Signature Islay Single Malt
06:56 – The reason: five words that had to be earned
07:48 – Hoyt and the wrong side
08:34 – The lesson: the one spot where somebody had to tell the truth
09:25 – The four things, all on the front. One: the category line and the order of the words
10:56 – Two: the word in front of the category, and the gift set
12:05 – Taking it back: the color tool dies on this side
13:37 – Three: the brand name is not the distillery
14:53 – Four: the silence where the age should be
16:08 – Two things not printed on the label: what the law does to the front
17:01 – Teaspooning: why single malt costs money
18:06 – Where this stops: the words say nothing about quality
18:36 – Which of the eleven: nobody knows
19:03 – The company in California, and the store brand
20:01 – The market: the tariff and the figures for 2025
20:55 – The tariff was never ten percent of your price
22:35 – No sponsor, and the men nobody counted
23:21 – Your homework: read four fronts, price blind
23:52 – At home: add water and wait two minutes
24:32 – The question: your town and your price
25:11 – Next time: the American word
