Description
Original Video Credit: IG@saferoceans
This is an emergency liferaft being deployed during safety training.
Liferafts are designed to stay packed into a very small container until they are needed. In an emergency at sea, the packed raft can be thrown into the water and activated using a line known as the painter line.
When the activation system is triggered, compressed gas is released into the raft’s inflatable chambers. Within seconds, the raft expands from a compact package into a large floating shelter.
The inflated tubes provide buoyancy and help keep the raft stable on the water, while the orange canopy offers protection from wind, rain, sea spray, and strong sunlight.
Emergency liferafts can also carry survival equipment depending on their type and intended use, including items such as signaling equipment, water, first-aid supplies, paddles, and other emergency gear.
The exercise shown in this video allows students or crew members to see how quickly a liferaft deploys and learn what to expect during a real emergency.
In simple terms, pulling the activation line releases compressed gas, causing the liferaft to inflate automatically and turn into a floating emergency shelter within seconds.
This video is shared for educational purposes to explain maritime safety equipment and how emergency liferafts are deployed.
