Description

About five thousand Polish soldiers were sent to Saint-Domingue by Napoleon, and a few hundred at most stayed in Haiti. Today families point to light eyes, a village name or a family story as proof of Polish ancestry. We test ten of those signs against the documented history, from the 1805 constitution to the lost records of Cazale. In this video we walk through: 📌 How many Polish soldiers came, how many died and how many stayed (and why the sources disagree) 📌 Why the 1805 constitution made Poles, and Germans, a special case for land 📌 Ten popular signs: eye color, hair, Cazale, a changed-sides story, Polish-sounding surnames, the Black Madonna and more 📌 Why no sign is proof, and why the Germans, French and Americans complicate the test 📌 The one kind of evidence that can turn a family story into a fact Important note, stated directly in the video: no trait proves Polish ancestry, and we found no DNA study of the people of Cazale and no verified list of Polish-derived Haitian surnames. Soldier counts differ across sources, so the video gives ranges. 🔎 Want to find out if the Polish story is yours? Book your surname search. The link is in the pinned comment. 🧬 Ready to trace your roots? Book your surname search and family research today. The link is in the pinned comment. 💬 Tell us your surname and your region of Haiti below. Type 1 if your family is from the Cazale area, 2 if your family has a story about a European soldier ancestor, 3 if you came for the eye color.
