Description

A mother of six murdered despite a protection-from-abuse order. A young Tennessee mother who dropped off her children and never came home. Two devastating cases where women were failed by the people they trusted. In today's episode of Southern Girl Crime Stories, we cover two heartbreaking cases from Pennsylvania and Tennessee. From the murder of Ashley Lockhart, a devoted mother of six daughters whose fiancé brutally killed her in broad daylight, to the murder of Sara Summer, a young mother of three whose secret rekindled relationship ended in betrayal, violence, and a burning van in a Tennessee cornfield… these are stories that demand to be remembered. 🔎 Featured Cases: 🕵 Sara Summer — Humboldt, Tennessee On September 6, 2004, 27-year-old Sara Summer dropped her three sons off at her mother’s house in Humboldt, Tennessee, saying she would be back to pick them up later. She never returned. Six days later, investigators were called to a cornfield off White Brothers Road between Humboldt and Gibson, where Sara’s blue minivan was burning near a local teen hangout known as “The Hole.” When the fire was put out, they found Sara’s body outside the van. She had been killed by blunt force trauma to the back of the head, then later set on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. Investigators eventually uncovered that Sara had secretly rekindled a relationship with Jason Sanders, a man she had known since school. He later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 15-year prison sentence. He was released in 2017. 🕵 Ashley Lockhart — West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania On August 6, 2022, police were called to the 5300 block of Chestnut Street in West Philadelphia after someone spotted a woman slumped over in the passenger seat of a Honda Odyssey minivan. Inside, officers found 32-year-old Ashley Lockhart, a beloved mother of six daughters she called her “6 Charms.” Ashley had been stabbed 27 times, and the knife was still in her face.
