The second-generation 2027 Volkswagen Atlas has been introduced as an all-new midsize SUV, featuring a redesigned exterior, a more premium cabin, advanced technology, and improved driver-assistance systems. Volkswagen has focused on enhancing comfort, practicality, and performance while retaining the spacious character that has made the Atlas popular among families. The 2027 Volkswagen Atlas continues to use the MQB Evo platform, an updated version of the architecture that has supported the SUV since its original launch in 2018. The new generation is approximately one inch longer than its predecessor, while its width, height, and wheelbase remain unchanged. The Atlas retains its relationship with the Volkswagen Teramont sold in international markets. Its exterior styling draws inspiration from the updated Chinese-market Teramont Pro, featuring a more modern appearance with body-colored bumpers and side sills. Sculpted wheel arches and clean body lines give the SUV a more refined and sophisticated look. At the front, a distinctive lighting arrangement combines the headlights, grille elements, and Volkswagen badge into a unified design. The rear features a full-width lighting element with pixel-style graphics, creating a contemporary appearance. Unlike the Chinese-market Teramont Pro, which features retractable door handles, the North American Atlas retains conventional door handles. The interior receives a comprehensive redesign, with improved materials, updated styling, and additional convenience features. Genuine wood trim is available across the range, while higher-specification variants offer upgraded leather upholstery and new interior color combinations. One of the most significant changes is the relocation of the gear selector to the steering column. This frees up space in the center console, providing additional room for storage and everyday items. Depending on the trim level, the infotainment system features either a large 15-inch touchscreen or a 12.9-inch display. Every version comes with a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro instrument display, providing the driver with essential vehicle information. Volkswagen has also introduced a new Driver Experience Dial for adjusting functions such as volume, driving modes, and ambient lighting. The updated wireless charging system supports the Qi2 standard and can charge two smartphones simultaneously. Other technology highlights include a generative AI-powered voice assistant and additional USB-C charging ports throughout the passenger cabin. These upgrades aim to make the Atlas more convenient for families and improve the overall driving experience. Powering the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas is an updated version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The revised powertrain produces 282 horsepower, representing an increase of 13 horsepower compared with the previous model. However, torque has decreased from 273 lb-ft to 258 lb-ft. Volkswagen also expects the updated engine to deliver improved fuel efficiency, although final consumption figures may vary depending on the configuration. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive remains standard, while Volkswagen's all-wheel-drive system is available as an option. the Atlas continues to offer practical towing capability. The SUV can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, making it suitable for hauling trailers and recreational equipment. In the United States, the entry-level 2027 Volkswagen Atlas starts at $41,610.
