Description
My grandmother bought her skillet secondhand for a quarter in 1951 and cooked on it for forty years. At 52, I'm finally learning to shop the way she did. Here's how.
When I sat down with a year of receipts, I found I'd spent over $4,000 on things I could have bought used. Grandma taught me better. So in this video I'm sharing the 7 things I always buy secondhand now, from cast iron and wool coats to solid wood furniture. I'm also sharing the 3 things I'll never buy used, because they keep the people you love safe. Stay to the end for number one. It's a church-sale dresser with a little girl's name carved inside the drawer, and it's the reason buying secondhand like my grandmother changed how I see my whole house.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 — Grandma's skillet and my $4,000 wake-up call
2:06 — Never #1: Why baby car seats expire
3:13 — Never #2: The $1,400 used mattress mistake
5:33 — #7: Thirty-one books for just $34
6:42 — #6: An $18 wool coat that'll outlast me
9:16 — #4: A rusty $12 cast iron skillet
11:34 — #2: Grandkids' gifts that saved $400
12:43 — #1: The dresser that made me cry
Which of these will you try first? Is there something you always buy used that I missed? Tell me in the comments below.
