Description
My grandmother bought secondhand. A quarter for a cast iron pan that got better every year. We pay seventy dollars for one that starts out worse. Here's how I shop like her at 52.
When I turned 52, I sat down with a year of bank statements and didn't like what I found. So I started buying secondhand the way my grandmother did: thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales and church sales. In this video I share the 7 things I always buy secondhand now, like a $40 solid maple dresser that saved me over a thousand dollars, plus the 3 things I will never buy used, no matter how good the deal looks. Stay until the end, because number one on my grandmother-inspired secondhand list didn't just save me money. It changed how I live every single day.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 — Grandma's 25-cent cast iron pan story
2:02 — #7: The $6 skillet that lasts forever
3:26 — #6: $320 wool coat for $14
6:18 — #4: Solid maple dresser for $40
10:10 — Never #3: The hidden danger in used mattresses
11:08 — Never #2: Why car seats expire
12:10 — Never #1: The thrift store fire risk
13:13 — #1: Grandma's good china, never used
Which of these are you going to try first? Is it the cast iron? The wool coat? Or are you going to pull out your good dishes tonight? Tell me in the comments below.
