Description
In 1934, a family of six ate dinner from one pot of 1930s winter soup for about twelve cents. So why was I paying $4.50 for one carton of broth? Here's how I went back.
When I turned 52, my husband and I were spending over $700 a month on groceries for just two people. So I went back to the 1930s winter soup habits my grandmother's generation lived by, and within a few months our grocery bill fell by $200. In this video, I walk you through all 12 habits, from the bone bag in my freezer to the Friday soup that uses up every leftover. And stay until the end, because habit number one isn't about money at all.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 — Twelve cents versus a $4.50 carton
1:56 — #12: Never throw away a bone
4:23 — #10: Why canned beans cost four times more
6:54 — #8: Croutons are just stale bread
8:04 — #7: The soup that never ended
10:11 — #5: Soup was the meal, not the side
13:21 — #2: The Thursday soup swap with neighbors
14:28 — #1: The habit I almost didn't share
Which of these 1930s winter soup habits are you going to try first? Is it the bone bag, the Friday soup, or setting the table again? Tell me in the comments below. I read every single one.
