Description

A lioness stalks a herd of wildebeest and zebras across short grass, keeping her body close to the ground as she approaches. This lion hunting technique combines concealment, careful movement and a short burst of speed. With little tall vegetation to hide behind, lowering the head and shoulders reduces the lion’s visible outline. Grass, shallow dips and uneven ground provide cover during the approach. Lions rely on short chases rather than prolonged pursuit. Depending on the situation, they stalk to within around 30 metres—about 100 ft—before launching their charge. Closing that distance gives prey less time to react and escape. During group hunts, lions can approach from different directions, increasing opportunities to intercept fleeing animals. Their stalking behaviour helps explain how these large predators hunt alert, fast-moving prey across open African grasslands. #animals #wildlife #nature #natureholic #lions #lionhunting Nature, wildlife, animals, animal facts, wildlife facts, nature facts, animal behaviour, animal behavior, animal kingdom, animal adaptations, biodiversity, natural world, wildlife encounters, nature shorts, lion stalking prey, lions in short grass, lion hunting techniques, lioness hunting, wildebeest herd, zebra herd
