Description

"Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1856." That line is printed under a view of the U.S. Capitol with its tall new dome already finished. Officially, that dome wasn't completed until 1866. In this series finale, I look at 3 lithographs by E. Sachse, from 1852, 1856 and 1857. All 3 were registered in the District Court of Maryland. All 3 say "drawn from nature." And all 3 show a Capitol that, by the official record, wasn't finished yet. This is the final chapter of Norumbega.
