Description

In 1791, the land under the U.S. Capitol was signed over to the federal government. The deed did not call it Capitol Hill. It called it New Troy, a name that ground had carried since 1663, next to a farm called Rome and a creek renamed the Tiber. In Part 6 of the Norumbega series, I peel the names off that one hill, one at a time. The Ark and the Dove leaving the Isle of Wight in 1633. A brick chapel at St. Mary's City with walls 3 feet thick, pulled down in 1705, and 3 lead coffins found beneath it. A Nacotchtank village on Capitol Hill. L'Enfant's "pedestal waiting for a superstructure." A straight line from a buried pyramid in Mexico, through the Capitol, to the ruins of Troy. And Orion's Belt in the 1792 plan of Washington. If you know an older name for that ground, tell me in the comments. THE NORUMBEGA SERIES Part 1 to Part 6 are in the Norumbega playlist on this channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB2loJwXnotI Research: independent researchers, used with permission.
