Description

A Sunday afternoon in May 1970. Ed Parker's karate studio in Pasadena, California. Sixty black belts, a few parents, two of Elvis's own bodyguards — and a newspaper photo of the King mid-kick pinned to the corkboard as a joke. Then Bruce Lee walked in, looked at that photo, and asked the question nobody else had the nerve to ask: "Is this real, or is this Hollywood?" Elvis didn't argue. He pointed at the mat. What followed was forty minutes nobody in that room ever forgot — nine points, one pair of white trousers split clean in half, the most disciplined man alive sitting on the floor laughing until he cried, and one move no martial arts system on earth had ever prepared for. And at the end of it, Bruce Lee took out a pen and wrote a single word on the inside of Elvis's black belt. Elvis wouldn't explain it to anyone — until the week Bruce died, three years later, in a back room at Stax Records in Memphis.
