Description
The Second World War and the Greek Civil War that followed devastated the mountain regions of Greece. Flocks were lost. Families displaced. Traditional migration routes became too dangerous to maintain.
In the decades after, the Greek government pushed for permanent settlement. Village life and fixed housing gradually replaced the tent and the flock.
A journey that had lasted 3,000 years — down from the summer peaks, up from the winter plains, generation after generation — quietly ended within the span of a single human lifetime.
