Description

How a Platypus Raises Its Babies in the Dark | survival wildernesslink video : https://youtu.be/KVdbf7FQWzg Deep inside a creek bank in eastern Australia, a mother platypus lays two leathery eggs, curls her body around them for about ten days, and seals the tunnel behind her with plugs of soil every time she leaves. Her babies hatch the size of a lima bean, blind and helpless, and drink milk that seeps from patches of skin on her belly, because she has no nipples. At night she hunts with her eyes, ears and nostrils shut, finding prey with the sensors in her bill, stuffing it into her cheek pouches and grinding it with pads instead of teeth. Months later, her young take their first clumsy swim, and one of them, a rare pale juvenile, has to learn that in a dark creek, standing out can be deadly. 00:00 The strangest mammal on Earth 00:32 The burrow 00:40 Eggs 01:12 Hatching 01:52 Plugging the tunnel 02:16 Hunting blind 03:52 The young grow fur 04:16 The first swim 04:56 The pale one 05:36 Play and learning to hunt 06:16 Eels and foxes 07:04 Leaving home 07:28 The cycle begins again #platypus #wildlife #naturedocumentary #australia #animals
