Description
Heavy snow, a winding mountain road, and an ascent into Tibet’s high country at around 4,600 metres. Join this immersive 8K drive along the Bingchacha Road on G219, climbing from near Dejiutong Village to Xiongzhula Pass through an intense October snowfall.
This episode of the Bingchacha series follows the uphill section to Xiongzhula. The drive covers 28.7 kilometres in 49 minutes, with recorded elevations of 3,909–4,658 metres. Travelling from Chawalong towards Zayü, Xiongzhula is the first high mountain pass of the journey: the “first test for the brave” featured in the Chinese title. Successive bends and falling snow make the ascent itself the heart of this episode.
The name Bingchacha combines Bingzhongluo, Chawalong and Zayü, the places linked by this renowned route between Yunnan and southeastern Tibet. This recording takes place in Zayü County, Nyingchi, and begins high in the mountains. The lower Nu River valley belongs to the earlier journey and helps explain the striking contrasts of the full route.
Zayü lies among deep valleys and high mountains on the southeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. Warm valleys, mountain forests and cold alpine terrain reflect pronounced differences in elevation and climate. Here, the heavy snow encountered on October 4 gives the climb to Xiongzhula a distinctly wintry atmosphere.
The wider corridor is connected with a Yunnan–Tibet branch of the ancient Tea Horse Road. Caravan trade once linked its villages; today, the road supports local travel, supplies and tourism. Tibetan and other ethnic communities give this celebrated driving route a human story beyond its scenery.
Bingchacha has undergone successive road improvements. Plans and reporting describe widening, better access and tunnel construction. This film records the mountain-pass ascent actually driven on the filming day, preserving a view of a road in transition.
No narration and no music: just authentic driving and ambient sound. Follow the road, mountains and falling snow at the pace of the journey. Watch on a large screen to explore the mountain-road and snowfall details in this high-quality 8K recording.
