On January 20, 1987, church envoy Terry Waite went to Beirut to help free hostages and was taken captive himself. For 1,763 days he was held, chained for most of every day and kept in total isolation for four years. The door was locked against every friend, but it could never lock God out. Stay for what arrived one day in that dark room. This morning devotional walks through three truths for every lonely heart. First, feeling alone is not being forsaken: the God who held Jacob on his stone pillow is in your lonely place too (Psalm 139:9-10, Psalm 27:10, Genesis 28:15-16). Second, the quiet trap that keeps believers lonely, and what David did inside the cave of Adullam (Psalm 68:6, Psalm 142:4-5). Third, Jesus Himself knows the pain of being left by the people you love, and He promised He would never leave you (John 16:32, John 14:18). Stay to the end for a blessed prayer over your loneliness, your family, your friendships, your healing and your breakthrough, in the mighty name of Jesus.
