Description

Every most expensive city in the world and what makes them so unaffordable, explained in minutes. Some charge you $5,500 a month for a one bedroom, some make you pay $100,000 just for the right to own a car, and one literally built more country because it ran out of space. As a real urban planner, i'm breaking down the most expensive cities where the cost of living has gone completely beyond anything reasonable... #urbanplanning #city #explained Manhattan: The most expensive rental market in America where landlords give away free months of rent just to fill apartments. That's not generosity, that's a market hitting a wall. San Francisco: Median home price at $1.5 million and climbing. Engineers making $200K a year are priced out of the neighborhoods they work in.. Zurich: The most expensive city on Earth according to almost every index. Six of the top ten most expensive cities in the world are Swiss. Monaco: Average resale price hits 52,000 euros per square meter. They ran out of land so they dumped rocks in the mediterranean and built more country... Singapore: A Toyota Corolla costs $178,000 here. Not because of the car, because of the license you need just to be allowed to own one. London: Average rent at £2,273 a month and your first home in Kensington will cost you over a million pounds.. Prices are technically dropping. It still doesn't help. Sydney: Median house price heading past $2 million. Servicing a new home loan here eats 68% of your pre tax income... Honolulu: The most isolated major city on Earth where a gallon of milk costs $8 and 90% of all food is shipped in from the mainland. Which city's cost of living shocked you the most? I'm Umut, an urban planner currently pursuing my Master's degree. I'm passionate about decoding the complex world of cities, and I'm here to break down everything I've learned—from university lectures to my travels—into clear videos. My goal is to make the often technical subject of urban planning engaging and easy to understand for everyone. On this channel, we explain various topics like city models, principles of urbanism, some insanely-well designed cities, and American suburbs in a simple and clear way. Of course, topics like Megacity projects, future city models, street patterns, smart cities, walkability, urban design, zoning, public transportation and urban planners are also in our area of interest. If you want to better understand your environment, join a conscious conversation about cities, and explore these living organisms with me, you're in the right place. Subscribe to join the community and let's meet in the next video! © 2026 Urban Planner Explained
