Description

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence created one of the strangest moments of the NFL season against the New England Patriots. Jacksonville was comfortably leading late in the fourth quarter when Lawrence broke through the defense and had a completely open path to the end zone. But instead of scoring, he deliberately took a knee at the 1-yard line. With just over eight minutes remaining, the decision immediately confused fans, especially those who had bet on Lawrence scoring a touchdown. Some even began joking that the NFL was “scripted.” After the game, Lawrence explained that he was thinking about the four-minute offense. His intention was to keep possession and burn as much time off the clock as possible. But after taking the knee, Lawrence realized there were still around eight minutes remaining and admitted he had probably overthought the situation. Making it even more ironic, New England called a timeout and Bhayshul Tuten scored from the 1-yard line on the very next play. Jacksonville ultimately won 35–6, meaning Lawrence’s bizarre decision didn’t affect the result, but it certainly hurt anyone who needed him to score. 😭🏈
