Description

A baby alligator performing a death roll demonstrates a feeding technique used long before adulthood. The animal grips its target with its jaws and rotates around the length of its body, generating a twisting force. Alligator teeth are built for gripping rather than chewing. Rotational feeding helps them break apart food too large to swallow whole. Researchers studying this movement recorded juvenile alligators averaging only 29 cm in length performing rolls in water. Young alligators mainly eat insects, small fish and other small animals. As they grow, their increasing size and strength allow them to handle larger prey. #animals #wildlife #nature #natureholic #BabyAlligator #AlligatorFacts Nature, wildlife, animals, animal facts, wildlife facts, nature facts, animal behaviour, animal behavior, animal kingdom, animal adaptations, biodiversity, natural world, wildlife encounters, nature shorts, baby alligator, alligator death roll, alligator feeding, juvenile alligator, crocodilian behaviour, reptile facts
