Description

Your coffee has tasted a little flat lately. You bought fresh beans and it didn't help, so you've about decided coffee just isn't what it used to be. It isn't the coffee. Pop the lid off your grinder and look at the dark brown film inside. Coffee beans are about 15% oil, and oil goes rancid. Every morning your fresh beans go down into a chamber coated in old rancid oil — and you can't wash it, because there's a motor under there. A quarter cup of plain uncooked rice, thirty seconds, and it comes out grey-brown. That color is what's been in your coffee every morning. Rice works because it's two things at once: hard enough to scour, and dry enough to absorb. Salt is hard but it dissolves. Baking soda absorbs but it's soft as flour. Rice does both jobs in the same grain — which is why one two-dollar bag replaces about sixty dollars of things sitting in your drawers. The 6 uses: 1. Coffee and spice grinders — and which grinder you must NOT do this with 2. Vases, thermoses and anything with a neck too narrow for a brush 3. The rice sock — a heat pad for a stiff shoulder, and a cold pack, for about a dollar 4. Pie weights for blind baking, reusable for years 5. Pulling damp out of salt shakers, toolboxes and stored silver 6. Rice water as ironing starch — the way it was done before the spray can Also covered: which rice to use and which three kinds not to — and the one rice "trick" almost everyone in this country believes that is flatly wrong. Stay to the end for that one. Your one job this week: just the grinder. Two minutes. Then come tell me in the comments what color your powder came out, and how many years you've had that grinder. ... rice in coffee grinder, how to clean a coffee grinder, clean spice grinder, uses for rice, rice hacks, rice sock heating pad, how to clean a vase, clean a thermos, rice pie weights, blind baking without weights, rice water starch, does rice fix a wet phone, wet phone rice myth, kitchen tips, household uses for rice, old fashioned kitchen tips, coffee tastes bitter, rancid coffee oil, cleaning tips for seniors ... #kitchentips #cleaninghacks #householdtips
