Description
Deep clean a filthy couch without renting a machine, hiring anyone, or buying a single spray. A bowl, a brush and a white towel — that's the whole list.
But before you put one drop of water on that couch, go lift the seat cushion and find the little white tag. There's a single letter on it: W, S, WS or X. That letter tells you what you're allowed to use, and almost nobody in America has ever read it. Put plain water on an "S" couch and you'll leave a permanent ring you cannot undo.
The reason most couches come out smelling worse is that people clean them too hard. A couch is a sponge on a wooden frame. There's no rinse cycle. Everything you put in has to come back out — and the old method does that with foam instead of water.
What's covered:
- The letter on your couch tag, and what W, S, WS and X each mean
- What to do when there's no tag at all
- Why dry brushing before you vacuum does half the work
- Baking soda for smell — how much, and how long
- The foam-only method: whisk it, and use only the suds
- Why a white towel matters and a colored one doesn't
- Blotting vs rubbing, and what rubbing does permanently
- The rubbing alcohol method for "S" couches and microfiber
- Drying it fast, and why damp foam is how couches get ruined
- What this method will NOT fix — the honest limits
- What a rental machine actually does to a couch that can't be rinsed
Your one job this week: don't clean anything. Just go find the tag and read the letter. Then come tell me in the comments which letter you got and how old that couch is.
