A Prince in Disguise | Dark Fantasy Series (Part 152)

Two men.🖤 One broken moment.🔥 And a touch that comes a little too late. Rook never meant to hurt Tristan. At least... that's what he'd probably tell himself. Because when Yannis stood before the bounty hunter with a sword against his throat... Rook was afraid. Afraid that Yannis might actually go through with it. Afraid that the man he'd been kissing only moments earlier might never get another chance. And perhaps... deep down, he's terrified of losing Yannis's friendship if Yannis ever discovers just how deeply Rook cared for someone he despises. Torn between the fear of losing someone who means so much to him and the guilt of having cared for someone he was never supposed to, he finds himself trapped. So he did what he thought he had to do. He pretended. He called Tristan a filthy rat. Said he meant nothing to him. Anything to convince Yannis that there was no reason to see Tristan as anything more than a prisoner. And it worked. Yannis lowered his sword. Tristan was spared. But there was a price. One Rook hadn't quite anticipated. Because Tristan heard every word. And now... with Yannis and Alaric finally walking away... Rook has to face the man he claims means nothing. He crouches in front of him. His voice quieter now. Almost gentle. "You know I didn't mean that." But Tristan doesn't smile. Not really. Instead, he lets out a bitter little laugh. "Which part? The filthy rat... or the part where I mean nothing to you?" And Rook? For once... he doesn't have a clever answer. "Tristan..." Just his name. Nothing more. But Tristan had grown tired of people looking down on him. Of being made to feel like he was never quite good enough. For a brief moment, he'd allowed himself to believe that Rook saw him for who he truly was, without judgment or contempt. But perhaps he'd been wrong about Rook, too. So Tristan forces that familiar smirk back onto his face. Cold. Defensive. And perhaps a little too convincing. "Relax, mate. I wasn't planning on falling for you." And suddenly... Rook is the one who doesn't know what to say. Because maybe he expected anger. Another insult. A sarcastic remark. Anything but that. Anything but the possibility that Tristan might be closing a door Rook has only just realised he might want to walk through. So instead of speaking... Rook reaches out. Gently. Almost hesitantly. His fingers brush Tristan's cheek. And for one brief moment... Tristan lets him. Perhaps because he wants to believe him. Perhaps because, despite everything... he still wants that tenderness to mean something. But then... he turns away. Pulls back from Rook's touch. And leaves Rook's hand suspended between them. A small gesture. Almost nothing. Yet somehow... it hurts more than all the angry words that came before. Because Rook managed to protect Tristan from Yannis' sword. But protecting him from the pain Rook himself caused? That might be a battle he's already losing. 💔 This is just a small moment from The Firelords Saga — where enemies are slowly becoming something more, but fear, pride and unspoken feelings can sometimes wound more deeply than any blade. 🔥🖤 Thank you to everyone already following their story… it truly means more than you know. 🖤 If you love slow burn romance, emotional tension, fantasy storytelling, and Boys Love (BL) dynamics — this is for you. 💛 New here?
