Description
Stop ending up with mushy or hard rice! ❌ In this video, I’ll show you a Japanese chef’s simple method for cooking fluffy, glossy rice in a regular pot—no rice cooker needed. ✅ Learn how choosing the right rice, measuring the water carefully, rinsing, soaking, controlling the heat, resting, and fluffing correctly can help you get consistently delicious rice every time!
【Basic Rice & Water Ratio】
Japanese short-grain rice — 300 g (about 2 Japanese cups / go)
Water — 400 g
For other amounts, use a 3:4 rice-to-water ratio as a starting point.
Adjust the water slightly depending on the rice and pot.
For Japanese rice, look for “Japanese short-grain rice,” “Japanese rice,” or “Sushi rice” (unseasoned). Calrose can also be used.
【Cooking Method】
1. Rinse the rice and drain well.
2. Add 400 g of water and soak for about 30 minutes.
3. Cover and bring to a full boil over medium heat.
4. Once boiling, immediately reduce to the lowest heat and cook for 10 minutes.
5. Turn off the heat and let the rice rest, covered, for 15 minutes.
6. Gently fluff the rice to release excess steam.
A special pot isn’t necessary. A simple saucepan with a well-fitting lid works perfectly well.
