Description

Jake Olson dreamed of playing college football, but his journey to the field was unlike anything his teammates had experienced. When Jake was only 8 months old, doctors discovered cancerous tumors in both of his eyes. His family spent years fighting the disease and trying to preserve his vision for as long as possible. But at age 12, Jake received the news his family had feared for years. He would lose his remaining eye and become completely blind. For a kid who loved sports and had grown up supporting the USC Trojans, it could have meant giving up on his dream of ever stepping onto a football field. Instead, Jake found a way to adapt. He focused on mastering one highly specialized job: becoming a long snapper. Without being able to see his target, Jake practiced the same movement over and over, learning to rely on repetition, positioning, and feel to deliver the football accurately. Eventually, his work earned him an opportunity at the school he had supported since childhood: USC. But even after joining the program, Jake waited two years without appearing in a game. Then his opportunity finally arrived. USC lined up for an extra point, and Jake walked onto the field for his college football debut. He snapped the football. The hold was clean. The kick went through. And after everything Jake had overcome, he had officially played—and successfully completed a snap for the team he had dreamed of representing. ❤️🏈
