Description

This Is the Best OS for Low-End PCs! Can a 16-year-old PC with a Core 2 Duo and just 2GB of RAM still be useful in 2026? I installed Q4OS to find out. This old Dell OptiPlex XE was struggling with Windows 10, so instead of upgrading the hardware, I replaced Windows with Q4OS, a lightweight Debian-based Linux distribution designed for older and low-end PCs. And honestly, Q4OS surprised me. With the lightweight Trinity desktop, the system uses just over 400MB of RAM at idle and feels remarkably smooth on this ancient hardware. But I wanted to see how far Q4OS could actually go. I tested Firefox with multiple tabs, YouTube playback up to 1080p, LibreOffice, GIMP, and even Minecraft. Despite having only 2GB of RAM and an old integrated Intel GPU, the PC remained surprisingly usable. If you have an old laptop or desktop collecting dust, Q4OS might be exactly what it needs. Q4OS delivers a familiar desktop experience without the heavy resource usage of a modern Windows installation. Would you install Q4OS on your old PC? Let me know in the comments!
