Description

This video demonstrates the MRI projectile effect, showing just how powerful the magnetic field around an MRI scanner can be.
MRI machines use an extremely strong magnetic field to create detailed images of the inside of the human body. That magnetic field is present around the scanner even when no one is being scanned.
Certain metals, especially ferromagnetic materials such as iron and some types of steel, can be strongly attracted toward the MRI machine. If a loose object made from one of these materials gets too close, it can suddenly accelerate toward the scanner and become a dangerous projectile.
This is why hospitals have very strict safety rules around MRI rooms. Items such as certain tools, oxygen cylinders, carts, and other metal equipment must be checked before they are allowed near the scanner.
In simple terms: an MRI is basically an incredibly powerful magnet, and certain metal objects can be pulled toward it with enough force to become dangerous.
This video is shared for educational purposes to explain MRI safety, magnetism, and the physics behind the projectile effect.
