Description
If your husband or wife dies, Social Security takes back the next payment, often straight out of your joint bank account. It's not a mistake and it's not a scam. It's a rule most families never hear about until the money is gone. Here's which payment goes back, what happens to your joint account, the bigger survivor check you have to ask for, and the one line on your house papers that can keep your home out of court.

CHECKLIST
✅ Don't spend the next Social Security deposit after a spouse dies. It goes back.
✅ Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213. Report the death and ask what's next.
✅ Get 8-10 certified copies of the death certificate.
✅ Ask each bank: "Does this account have right of survivorship?"
✅ Add a payable-on-death beneficiary to your accounts.
✅ Ask about the survivor check. It could be higher than your own.
✅ Ask for the $255 payment. You have 2 years.
✅ Check how your house is titled, while you're both still here.
What's one thing you wish someone had told you after losing a loved one? Share it in the comments. It could help someone watching tonight. Please never post bank details or your Social Security number.
Send this to a parent who handles all the money, or a friend who just lost their husband or wife.
