BUDDY Is NOT What You May Think

SPOILER-FREE! Buddy is one of those strange, unpredictable movies that reminds you why going to the cinema can still be exciting. Directed by Casper Kelly, the filmmaker behind Too Many Cooks and Adult Swim Yule Log, this bizarre horror comedy takes the innocent world of '80s and '90s children's television and turns it into something much darker. At the centre of it all is Buddy, an adorable orange unicorn voiced by Keegan-Michael Key. What begins as a bizarrely convincing children's TV show slowly transforms into a violent and disturbing nightmare. But Buddy is more than just "What if Barney was evil?" In this spoiler-free review, I talk about what makes Buddy so unusual, the movie's incredible production design, its strange mixture of horror and comedy, the performances and why I think this could eventually become a cult horror movie. If you're planning to see Buddy, I'd recommend knowing as little as possible beforehand. Don't read the plot synopsis. Don't watch spoiler-filled reviews. Just go in and let the movie surprise you. 🎬 Have you seen Buddy? Let me know what you thought in the comments!
