Description

Ben Affleck directed Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo. So how did he end up making one of the most generic, lifeless, AI-enhanced Netflix movies imaginable? In this review, I'm taking a look at 2026's ANIMALS, Netflix's new thriller starring Ben Affleck, Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun and Gillian Anderson. What should have been a tense, morally complex political thriller instead feels like a painfully overwritten, visually uninspired streaming slop that has absolutely nothing interesting to say. From its obvious similarities to Akira Kurosawa's High and Low to its questionable writing, disappointing performances, and the controversy surrounding AI in its production, this movie represents everything I hate about modern Netflix movies. Is this Ben Affleck's worst directorial effort? And has Netflix finally perfected the art of making movies designed to be watched while you're scrolling through your phone? Let's talk about it. #Animals #BenAffleck #Netflix
