YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER Is Special

Mahershala Ali is finally back in a movie worthy of his talents, and it's unlike almost anything else Hollywood studios are making these days. Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, written and directed by Bassam Tariq, follows a religious Muslim hitman whose life is turned upside down when a family tragedy forces him to confront his violent past while desperately trying to care for his three children. Starring Mahershala Ali, John Cho, Giancarlo Esposito, and Adia, the film combines a brutal crime thriller with an intimate family drama and a surprisingly thoughtful exploration of religion, grief, fatherhood, and morality. In this review, I discuss the film's striking cinematography, terrific performances, unconventional storytelling, and why its ambitious approach makes it so refreshing, even if not everything works, particularly its ending.
