Hurricane Isaias just tore the roof off an inn in Pensacola, ripped the boardwalk off the beach at Destin, put the streets of Fort Walton Beach under three feet of water, drove a 117-mph gust across the Gulf Breeze peninsula and 110 through a high school in Walton County, dropped nearly 10 inches of rain on one station in three hours, pushed the Gulf 5.6 feet above high tide at Panama City Beach while it sucked Mobile Bay 3 feet below normal, and turned the lights off for 834,000 homes and businesses in three states. All in one night. And the storm that did it was dead over Alabama by sunrise. It was the first hurricane to hit the United States in two years, to the day.
