VERITY Is Hilariously Terrible

Verity is one of the funniest bad movies I’ve seen all year. Directed by Michael Showalter and adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, the movie stars Dakota Johnson as struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired to finish the books of renowned author Verity Crawford, played by Anne Hathaway. But after moving into Verity’s home and discovering a disturbing unpublished manuscript, Lowen begins questioning everything she knows about Verity, her husband Jeremy, and the tragedies surrounding their family. At least, that’s what this movie thinks it’s about. In this video, I talk about the film’s bizarre dialogue, Dakota Johnson’s awkward and detached performance, Anne Hathaway’s dull and limited role, the flat instagram filter streaming-style filmmaking, the comparisons to Gone Girl and The Housemaid, and an increasingly ridiculous story that eventually reaches a twist that is so stupid, you won’t believe what you’re watching! This is a bad movie, but it’s also unintentionally hilarious and entertaining. I’ll explain why in the video. If you’ve seen the movie, let me know your thoughts in the comments, and thank you for watching! #Verity #AnneHathaway #DakotaJohnson #MovieReview #VerityMovie #ColleenHoover #FilmReview #Movies2026
