Description
On October 27, 2008, investigators made a shocking discovery inside the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) depot in Mombasa. More than 126 million litres of petroleum worth KSh7.6 billion had disappeared. There were no broken locks, no hijacked fuel trucks, and no signs of a forced break-in.
So, where did the fuel go?
This documentary uncovers the Triton Oil Scandal, one of the biggest corporate fraud cases in Kenya's history. It explores how businessman Yagnesh Devani, together with insiders at the Kenya Pipeline Company, allegedly exploited a financing system that allowed fuel owned by banks to be secretly released, sold, and concealed through falsified records.
The investigation also examines the roles of senior KPC officials, the political controversy surrounding the scandal, the forensic audit by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Devani's flight from Kenya, his extradition from the United Kingdom in 2024, and why, more than 17 years later, the case ended without anyone being convicted over the disappearance of the fuel.
