Description
Wicknell Chivayo's name has appeared in some of the biggest political and government procurement controversies across Southern Africa.
From Zimbabwe to Tanzania, Namibia, and now Kenya, the businessman has repeatedly found himself linked to multi-million and even multi-billion shilling government contracts, often surrounded by allegations, investigations, and public scrutiny.
But long before the luxury lifestyle, private jets, and meetings with presidents, Chivayo was serving time inside Zimbabwe's notorious Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison after being convicted of fraud.
Following his release, he built powerful political connections that transformed him from a former inmate into one of the region's most influential and controversial businessmen.
His companies would later secure major government contracts, including the infamous Gwanda Solar Project in Zimbabwe, where millions of dollars were paid despite little to no completed work. His name would also become heavily associated with election procurement controversies involving ballot paper tenders and government contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Then, in 2026, Kenya entered the story.
After the collapse of the controversial Adani airport proposal, reports emerged claiming that a company linked to Chivayo had become part of a consortium pursuing a project worth nearly KSh 380 billion to modernize Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The reports immediately sparked a political storm.
Questions were raised about his growing relationship with influential figures in Kenya, his reported acquisition of Kenyan citizenship, and whether his expanding presence in the country was driven purely by business interests.
As public pressure intensified, the Kenyan government publicly denied that Chivayo or any company associated with him had been awarded the airport contract.
But for many observers, the controversy had already grown far beyond the airport itself.
This documentary follows Wicknell Chivayo's extraordinary journey—from prison inmate to multimillionaire businessman—and examines the controversies, political connections, and government tenders that have made him one of Africa's most talked-about figures.
