Then something thirty feet behind him told him not to turn around — in his own voice. During the run out, it took hold of his pack. Account 2 — A six-year-old vanished from a campground at one fifteen in the afternoon in bright sun. Forty minutes into the search, a ranger heard the boy calling from the timber, repeating the same three words every twenty seconds — the same pitch, the same breath, twelve times. When he finally found the child, something much taller was standing directly behind him. Account 3 — A ranger checking on three overdue hikers found their camp completely packed. Tent folded, packs buckled, food sealed, and three pairs of boots side by side outside the door. The last line in their notebook read: it’s wearing my voice. Then three separate voices spoke to him from three directions — and four sets of prints led away from that camp, one of them barefoot.
