3 Campers Left Out Trail Cams Overnight. One Came Back With Extra Footage

Scary camping stories caught on camera. Three campers left trail cams running overnight in three different national forests — and what came back on the cards wasn't what any of them expected. True scary stories and creepy camping encounters submitted to Obscure Nights. Missing 411. Wilderness horror. Unexplained. Account 1 — A solo camper in Pisgah left two cameras running and hiked out for the day. He came back after dark to a bench with no camp on it — no tent, no pack, no food bag, no stakes, clean ground. And the camera he'd strapped to a poplar was on a different tree twenty feet away, at head height, aimed at where his tent had been. The card holds nine files. None of them cover the twenty-five minutes when everything he owned came off that bench. Account 2 — A solo camper in the Ozarks went to pull a card at dusk with the housing open in both hands. Something took the camera out of her hands — one slow, heavy pull that didn't stop when she resisted. She came off her feet into the base of the tree, lost two fingernails and her headlamp, and then heard nothing leave. It took her forty minutes to find her own tent eighty yards away. Account 3 — A camper in the Green Mountains came back to a card that was 94% full when he'd left it at 22%. There was a fourth folder on it, dated three days before he arrived. Eleven video files of his own campsite, filmed from inside the treeline — on a night when there was no camp on that bench and he was four hundred miles away. Six minutes into the last file, somebody sits down at his fire ring wearing his jacket.
